Genealogist Ken Thomas Provides Insight into Local History

The Columbus Technical College Humanities Department welcomed renowned Genealogist and Columbus native, Ken Thomas, on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 9:15am in Patrick Hall. The topic of his address was “Place Names of Columbus and Muscogee.” A crowd of about 75 students, faculty, and staff members were on hand to listen to Mr. Thomas.

Ken Thomas has written two books about the Columbus area: Columbus, Georgia: in Vintage Postcards, and Ft. Benning (Images of America Series). He is perhaps best known statewide for his weekly “Genealogy” column which has appeared in the Sunday Atlanta Journal-Constitution since 1977. Few genealogy columns have appeared this long in a newspaper of this size (Sunday circulation, 600,000 copies).
