Lisa O’Steen Receives Columbus Technical College’s 2007 Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Education

Columbus Technical College Names Instructor of the Year

July 2, 2007 – Nursing Instructor Lisa O’Steen has been named the “Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year” for Columbus Technical College. The Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction honors the Technical College System of Georgia’s most outstanding instructors. Nominees are chosen by fellow instructors and/or department heads.

As the winner for Columbus Technical College, Lisa O’Steen has earned a coveted reserved parking spot for one year, plus a check for $300. Lisa O’Steen will compete against winners from Georgia’s other technical colleges at a statewide Rick Perkins Award competition September 11 – 13 in Augusta. The state winner will serve as Georgia’s ambassador for technical education for the year. He or she will also earn a $1,000 grand prize and will make many appearances on behalf of the Technical College System of Georgia, including an address to the Georgia General Assembly.

“It is the ultimate honor to be selected as Instructor of the Year by your peers,” Lisa said. “Columbus Technical College is a great place to work and it allows instructors to focus on quality education. It’s exciting to be teaching in technical education today and to be part of a system that provides so many opportunities for diversity in education.”

The Rick Perkins Award has been a state-wide event since 1991 and was formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence. It was renamed the Rick Perkins Award in memory and honor of Thomas “Rick” Perkins, an instructor at West Central Technical College, who received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence prior to his untimely death.
