Members of the Columbus Technical College Board of Directors and the Columbus Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees, along with their college liaisons, recently participated at the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) 2013 Leadership Conference in Savannah. One big highlight of the conference for Columbus Technical College was the naming of longtime CTC Local Board chair, Ben Richardson, to the top spot for the Technical College Directors’ Association (TCDA). The TCDA is the arm of the Technical College System of Georgia that provides training workshops and a certification process for local technical college board members. Ben Richardson says he is humbled and honored to be the president of TCDA for the upcoming year.
“The Technical College System of Georgia is a great organization, and through the years, Georgia Technical colleges have met the needs of a changing workforce and global economy,” Richardson said. “We will continue to provide support for innovative new programs that are designed to transition our students into the high paying jobs of the future, such as 3D and Green technology. Moreover, our colleges continue to enable students to achieve and become productive employees in various occupations such as health care and manufacturing industries.”
Richardson has served on the TCDA executive board for several years and says by so doing, it allowed him to gain wisdom and guidance from past presidents and other officers.
The TCDA president represents the 300-plus members of the boards of directors at Georgia’s 25 technical colleges. Richardson also chairs the TCDA Executive Committee, which is the decision-making body of TCDA. The organization sponsors events in support of the Technical College System of Georgia, provides training workshops for its members, and is the co-host for the annual leadership conference which provides its members with professional development.
Also at the conference, participants took part in numerous staff development programs, gained insight from nationally recognized speakers, and had the opportunity to collaborate and socialize with their peers. Columbus Technical College Board of Directors even received recognition for having achieved 100% certification. Congratulations to them and to Ben Richardson!
