Learning Support Grading
At the close of each semester and upon a student’s completion of a learning support course, instructors will report a grade that documents a level of mastery of course competencies. The grading code will be A*, B*, C*, D*, or F* for learning support courses. Only the grades of "A*," "B*," and "C*" will be considered as satisfactorily completed for learning support courses. Grades for learning support courses will not be computed in the student’s GPA. Students who wish to take ENG 1101, or MAT 1111 must attain required COMPASS score after completing Learning Support courses.
Upon successful completion of ENGL 0098, READ 0098 and MATH 0099 with a grade of C or better, students are required to take an exit exam (Compass Test) and make a writing score of 62, a reading score of 79 and an algebra score of 39 before enrolling in ENGL 1101 and MATH 1111.
Students may take the exit exam a total of one time at no cost and two more times at their own expense before repeating the course. Students not achieving the required scores in English and math on the exit exam (Compass Test) must meet the following requirements in order to retake the exam:
- Before first re-take: complete 5 or more hours of tutorial in the Math and Writing Support Lab.
- Before the second re-take: complete 20 or more hours of tutorial in the Math and English Support Lab.
- Before the third re-take: repeat English 098, Reading 098 or Math 099 and complete 3 or more hours of tutorial per week.
Any student enrolled in English 098, Reading 098 or Math 099 may take the Compass Test prior to the eighth week of the semester at their own expense. If a passing score is achieved, the student will be withdrawn with a grade of WP upon request. This will not result in a refund for the course and may affect financial aid status. Students may take the exit exam beginning the eighth week of the semester at no cost for the first attempt with the instructor permission form.
