Campus Law Enforcement

Safety and security efforts on the campus are coordinated by the Columbus Technical College Chief of Police. The Chief and his staff are authorized to make arrests and are sworn law enforcement officers and they carry firearms as any other law enforcement officer does. Muscogee County Sheriff’s Deputies working on the campus have police authority to apprehend and arrest anyone involved in illegal acts on campus and areas immediately adjacent to the campus. Routine occurrences such as traffic accidents, thefts and damage to property investigations will be conducted and reported on by the Sheriff Deputies or the Chief of Police.

The most serious of offenses such as rape, murder, and aggravated assault may be investigated by the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, but the Chief of Police will evaluate whether the Columbus Police Department will be called in to conduct the investigation depending on the individual case. Every effort is made to solve these serious felony crimes through cooperative efforts of local law enforcement officers and Campus Police.

If minor offenses involving college rules and regulations are committed by a student Campus Police Officers may also make a disciplinary referral to the Vice President of Student Affairs.
