Dental Assisting Diploma

Your diploma will allow you to enter the dental field as a dental assistant and function as a chair-side assistant or administrative assistant. As a graduate, you will be competent in the technical areas of preventive dentistry; four-handed dentistry; chair-side assisting with emphasis on diagnostics; operative field prosthodontics; pediatric dentistry; orthodontic procedures; endodontic procedures; dental practice management; and dental radiology.

Employment opportunities include general dentistry; group practice; specific dental specialties such as oral surgery, endodontics, and orthodontics; public health dentistry; dental school clinics; and federal, state, and community clinics. Your education will also qualify you to manage a dental business office or serve in the armed forces.

The program handbook contains requirements pertaining to grades, academic dishonesty, immunizations, CPR certification, and transfer students.

You can be admitted every semester in the Health Care Assistant Program in order to complete prerequisite core courses. When you have completed prerequisite coursework, you compete for admission into the program during spring semester for summer admission.

The Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association accredits the Columbus Technical College Dental Assisting Program semester

PROGRAM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR

DENTAL ASSISTING

(Competitive Admission)

Must have presented official documentation of an earned high school diploma or official GED scores to the Admissions Office.

  1. Be at least 17 years old.
  2. No provisional and/or special admission students considered for the program.
  3. Must have minimum Reading and Writing COMPASS scores and these scores can not be more than five (5) years old in the semester you compete.
  4. Complete prerequisite courses listed on web site by the end of Spring semester.
  5. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 at the end of Spring semester.
  6. Submit packet containing the following:
  1. Letter of Intent
  2. Personal Data Form
  3. Documentation of volunteer hours for dental programs (minimum 20 hours)

Packets should be turned in to HSC-3323 by March 1 for Summer semester admission no sooner than two weeks prior to due date. All packets must be complete prior to due date

8. Provide current physical exam (medical form)/immunization record and current CPR card after program acceptance.

9. Hepatitis B immunization series must be started upon acceptance

Entrance into any healthcare program is contingent upon completion of a Background Check/Drug Screen from H.I.R.E. which must be completed after being conditionally accepted to the program.
