Practical Nursing Diploma
Practical Nurses (LPNs) are a vital part of the healthcare community. They are involved in direct patient care, administering medications, monitoring equipment, changing dressings, preparing food trays, feeding and bathing and managing patients, dressing patients, maintaining patient charts, taking vital signs and pulse rates. Practical Nursing is ideal for you if you are interested in the close, interpersonal aspects of healthcare.
Aside from academic coursework, as a Practical Nursing student, you will receive extensive clinical experience, supervised in area hospitals by the hospital personnel and Columbus Technical College healthcare professionals.
This program prepares you to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nursing.
Program Admission Requirements for Practical Nursing
(Competitive Admission)
Must have presented official documentation of an earned high school diploma or official GED scores to the Admissions Office
- Be at least 18 years old.
- No provisional and/or special admission students considered for the program.
- Must have minimum Reading and Writing COMPASS scores and these scores can not be more than five (5) years old in the semester you compete.
- Complete prerequisite courses listed on web site by the end of Spring semester
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 at the end of spring semester
- Submit packet containing the following:
- Letter of Intent
- Personal Data Form
- TEAS Exam Results
- Provide current physical exam/immunization record, dental exam and current CPR card after program acceptance
Packets should be turned in to HSC-3100 by February 1 for Summer semester admission no sooner than two weeks prior to due date. All packets must be complete prior to due date.
Special Notes:
- Current Practical Nursing students wishing to transfer into the PN program must be in good standing with a 2.0 minimum GPA from their transferring program. When submitting application materials, a letter from the current Program Manager and copies of all transcripts must be included.
- Credit for ALHS 1011 must be within the past 2 years. Applicants who have not completed ALHS 1011 in the last 2 years must retake the class.
Entrance into any healthcare program is contingent upon completion of a Background Check/Drug Screen from H.I.R.E. which must be completed after being conditionally accepted to the program.
Curriculum Outline
