HIT 208 - Health Information Technology Practicum III - This is a continuation of HIT 206 Practicum I and HIT 207 Practicum II. This course is designed to allow students to apply all functions related to the HIM profession. Students are acquainted with occupational responsibilities through realistic work situations and are provided with insights into management and supervisory applications on the job. The students will be given advanced health information management experience to include additional HIM-related functions such as patient intake, business office, revenue cycle management, legal and risk management and compliance. Occupational-based instruction is implemented through the use of an internship and all of the following: written individualized training plans, written performance evaluation, and required in-class seminars. The HIT Department Head and the health care facility preceptor will guide the student in accomplishing the objectives set forth in the Professional Practice Experience Handbook. This course is designed to help the student gain entry-level competencies as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Prerequisite: HIT 207, HIT Program Manager approval.
