PBL Students Excel at State CompetitionCongratulations to the Columbus Technical College Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) team! They did an outstanding job at the State competition in Atlanta over the weekend. Students on the CTC team competed against 34 colleges, universities and technical colleges from across Georgia. Management student, Raheem Hunter, placed first in the state for the Impromptu Speaking category. Fellow Management student and last year's National winner, Christa Stephens, placed second in the state for Public Speaking. Administrative Office Technology student and Columbus Technical College PBL President, Tonza Thomas, placed second in the state for the Job Interview category. Three management students (Elizabeth Hinkle, Raheem Hunter and Prince McBride) placed fourth in the state for their Chapter Annual Business Report. Columbus Technical College also had three students (Tonza Thomas, Raheem Hunter, Elizabeth McBride) to complete the Directors Level of Career and Membership Achievement Program (CMAP), earning the leadership recognition pin. The next step is the National PBL competition in Atlanta, June 21 – 29, 2008. The President of the Columbus Technical College PBL (Tonza Thomas) has been nominated as a state officer for 2008-2009 and Columbus Tech's advisor, Jacqueline Harris, was placed on the state’s advisory team.
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)-Phi Beta Lambda is a non-profit 501(c)3 education association with a quarter million students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields. FBLA-PBL is the largest business career student organization in the world. The high school division has 215,000 members, while the postsecondary division reaches over 11,000 college students.
