CTC Reveals Furlough Plan

August 5, 2009 - As mandated by the state of Georgia, Columbus Technical College has submitted a plan on how the school will implement three furlough days for its full time employees. Georgia is requiring state agencies implement their furloughs by the end of the calendar year, or halfway through the fiscal year. The three days equal 24 total hours per employee. Columbus Technical College, like several other colleges in the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) is on a four-day, 10 hours per day work week. During the last full week of August, September and October full time employees have agreed to work only 32 hours for each of those weeks.

While there's no "one size fits all" plan when it comes to reducing hours, the option that Columbus Technical College implemented received the majority of the vote by full time employees at a recent meeting to discuss the furlough issue.

Columbus Technical College President, Bob Jones, strongly encouraged his staff to pick an option that would mean no one would be affected by smaller paychecks close to the holiday season.

The TCSG has approved the furlough plan submitted by the college.
