Local Red Cross Honors CTC and Cabinetmaking Program

October 19, 2009: The West Central Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross on Monday presented Columbus Technical College and its cabinetmaking program with a certificate of appreciation for volunteering hours of manpower and skill to help renovate its local administrative/headquarters facility.

In her remarks, the Executive Director for the chapter, Sharon Lyon, said, "Columbus Technical College has been here for us again and again. They helped refurbish our headquarters and by volunteering their talents, saved us thousands of dollars in labor costs. That savings is being used to better serve our community."

When the local Red Cross chapter moved its blood donation services to a new building, students and faculty with the Columbus Technical College carpentry and cabinetmaking programs jumped in to help upgrade the older/current facilty. Parts of the existing administration/headquarters building were redesigned and retrofitted as CPR and First Aid classrooms.
