First Diagnostic Medical Sonography Class Ready to Graduate August 15, 2008 - Columbus Technical College would like to congratulate its first graduating class of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Carpentry Class Lends a Hand to Repair Playground Columbus Technical College carpentry students and instructor Jaime Fernandez were glad to lend a hand after a local Salvation Army playground was damaged by vandalism. The Columbus Tech crew repaired the damage as a service to Salvation Army officials and local kids who use the facility. Respiratory Professionals Come to Columbus Technical College An estimated 100 professionals from the area's respiratory care field will be honing their skills at an annual conference at Columbus Technical College. Columbus Technical College Helps Disabled Students with School, Work Experience July 16, 2008 - Twenty-year-old Megan Garcia wants to be a child psychologist. Thirty-one-year old Martha Brandt would like to be a computer specialist. While their career goals are very different, the two Columbus Technical College students share special bonds. Both are visually impaired and neither allows their disability to quash their dreams. Dental Assisting Grads Janice Williams and Nicole Brown Earn Dental Hygiene Degrees July 16, 2008 - Columbus Technical College would like to congratulate Janice Williams and Nicole Brown upon their completion and graduation from the Dental Hygiene program in June. This is particularly notable because ever since the implementation of the Dental Assisting diploma program there has yet to be a student who completed it and then went back to CTC to complete the Dental Hygiene degree program. Janice and Nicole have both accomplished that task. Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Students Receive Stipends July 2, 2008 - Columbus Technical College Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) students were greeted with a big surprise when they came to campus Wednesday morning. Each student was awarded a stipend worth $680 to help offset the cost of their education. The stipend originated from the generosity of late Carmike Cinema founder and Columbus resident, Carl Patrick. Once the monies from that source were depleted, the Columbus Technical Foundation was able to secure funds to continue the ADN stipend. All 70 students will receive the stipend, which totals $47,600. Round up your change for a good cause July 1 , 2008 – Columbus Technical College is participating in the fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House of West Georgia. As part of this campaign, Columbus Technical College Instructor Julie Thomas will work at the McDonald's on Manchester Expressway from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Just by eating lunch there during that time, and by agreeing to round your change up to the next dollar, you'll help families with sick children. First Class of Respiratory Care Students Boasts 100% Graduation Rate June 17, 2008 - Every member of Columbus Technical College's first class of Respiratory Care students can now call themselves Respiratory Care Practitioners. That's because 100% of the students who started the new program in winter of 2006 have graduated! Besides meeting the classroom and clinical requirements, all nine students also passed the Comprehensive Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Self-Assessment Exam as well as the National Board for Respiratory Care's (NBRC) Entry Level CRT (Certified Respiratory Technician) Examination. Columbus Technical College Names "Instructor of the Year" June 16, 2008 - Surgical Technology Instructor and Lead Advisor for the School of Health Sciences, Donna Emmons, has been named the "Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year" for Columbus Technical College for 2008-2009. The Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction honors the Technical College System of Georgia's most outstanding instructors. BRAC Grant to Help Columbus Technical College with Workforce Development April 16, 2008 - Thanks to a multi-million dollar grant from the Federal government, Columbus Technical College will be able to prepare more students for the area workforce. A check for $3 million was presented to the Valley Partnership at a news conference on April 16, 2008. That money is earmarked for training in several strategic economic areas in the state including: automotive maintenance, aerospace advanced manufacturing, information and communication technologies and industrial construction. The $3 million was part of a total $5 million grant that is tied to BRAC (Base Closure and Realignment Commission). PBL Students Excel at State Competition Congratulations to the Columbus Technical College Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) team! Dental Hygiene Students Earn $500 each in Scholarship Money August 9, 2007 - Columbus Technical College Dental Hygiene students Dawn Hunsinger and Leslie Ann Mallory each have $500 to help offset the cost of finishing school. The Emilie T. Fisher Foundation for Dental Education in Georgia, Inc. provided the $1,000 total scholarship money for two students (seniors) to use toward the cost of tuition and supplies. Students Monty Eller (Internet Specialist Degree) and Roberto Martinez (Management Supervisory Development Diploma) each received $700 for Spring Quarter, 2007. The extra money helped Eller and Martinez put their minds at ease about educational expenses. Stay-in-School Grant Awarded to CTC July 25, 2007 - Columbus Technical College (CTC) has been awarded a $53,207 grant aimed at helping young people stay in school. The “Stay in School” grant is a competitive grant, totaling $1 million; it is funded through Georgia’s Stay in School program.
