Nursing student hopeful Callie Rice of Harris County is the new Miss Collegiate America

Columbus Technical College student Callie Rice of Harris County is the new Miss Collegiate America!  Running as Miss Rhode Island, Rice beat out 52 competitors at the June 29th pageant in Little Rock, Arkansas.  According to its website, the Miss Collegiate America Pageant provides "personal and professional opportunities for girls enrolled in a university, trade school, beauty school, or continuing education program."

The nursing student hopeful was also named the country's top winner for community service.  She has volunteered nearly 1,400 hours of community service over the last three years, focusing on literacy and anti-bullying initiatives for children.  In her reign as Miss Collegiate America, Callie will travel across the country touting her platform – BRAVE – Building Respect and Value for Everyone.  When Callie's name was announced as the big winner, the emcee said she earned a prize package worth more than 80 thousand dollars!  Rice is taking the summer off from classes but has already enrolled for the fall semester and will be applying for Columbus Tech's Associate Degree Nursing program next fall.  Congratulations, Callie!
