Columbus Technical College, along with its 21 sister colleges in the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), is offering help to the thousands of students recently displaced by the closing of for-profit school, ITT Technical Institute. While the nearest campuses to Columbus are in the Metro Atlanta area, faculty and staff at Columbus Tech stand ready to assist any ITT students who may need help completing their programs of study. Vice President of Student Affairs, Tara Askew, says the College is doing what it can to make the ITT students feel welcome.
“Efforts are being made to make this transition as painless and affordable as possible,” Askew said. “A listing of courses is being compiled that compare TCSG and ITT programs to determine what credits may be accepted. As soon as more details are available, we will let everyone know.”
Former ITT students are encouraged to apply for Columbus Technical College during the October – January time frame with open registration for spring 2017 running October 3 – December 8. There is also an embedded session within the current semester that starts October 3rd and runs through the end of this term. Plans are in the works so ITT students will have the option to enroll in this mini-mester, also referred to as a “Part of Term.”
Columbus Technical College is regionally accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and offers plenty of financial aid options that includes an in-state tuition rate of just $89 per credit hour. Many of our students spend less than $4,000 for a full load of classes for one year. Tuition at ITT Tech was much higher with the average annual tuition being more than $18,000.
